चालीसा चौपाई
जय रघुबंश बिभूषन देवा। सुर नर मुनि सब करते सेवा॥ १ ॥
अर्थ: हे रघुकुल के आभूषण रूप दिव्य भगवान! आपकी जय हो। देवता, मनुष्य और मुनि-ऋषि सभी आपकी सेवा करते हैं।

कोविद कबि बुधि आंन न बानी। पार न पावैं अमित महिमानी॥ २ ॥
अर्थ: बड़े-बड़े विद्वान, कवि और बुद्धिमान लोग भी अपनी वाणी से आपकी असीम महिमा का पार नहीं पा सकते।

जनक सुता जग जननी जानकी। अतिशय प्रिय करुणा निधान की॥ ३ ॥
अर्थ: राजा जनक की पुत्री और जगत की माता सीता जी, करुणा के सागर श्री रामचंद्र जी को अत्यंत प्रिय हैं।

ताके जुग पद कमल मनावौं। जासु कृपा निरमल मति पावौं॥ ४ ॥
अर्थ: मैं उन दोनों (राम-सीता) के चरण कमलों की वंदना करता हूँ, जिनकी कृपा से मुझे निर्मल और पवित्र बुद्धि प्राप्त हो।

भंजन भार भूमि भइ आये। राजिव नयन दनुज बंश मिटाये॥ ५ ॥
अर्थ: धरती का कष्ट और भार मिटाने के लिए आपने अवतार लिया। हे कमल नयन! आपने दुष्ट राक्षसों के वंश का समूल नाश कर दिया।

बरिष चfilter (चौदह) वर्ष बिपिन में धारे। जनक सुता संग बंधु सिधारे॥ ६ ॥
अर्थ: आपने पूरे चौदह वर्ष तक वनवास का कष्ट सहा। आपके साथ माता सीता और भाई लक्ष्मण भी वन को गए।

निशिचर मारि सुजस बिस्तारे। ताड़का सुबाहु बालि संहारे॥ ७ ॥
अर्थ: आपने ताड़का, सुबाहु और बालि जैसे शक्तिशाली मायावियों का संहार करके राक्षसों को मारा और अपने पवित्र यश को चारों दिशाओं में फैलाया।

गिधराज की क्रिया सुहाई। सबरी के फल भखे रघुराई॥ ८ ॥
अर्थ: हे रघुराज! आपने जटायु (गिद्धराज) का अंतिम संस्कार स्वयं पिता की तरह किया और भीलनी शबरी के प्रेम-भाव से जूठे बेर भी खाए।

कीन्ही कपीस संग बहु प्रीती। बालि मारि थापी शुभ रीती॥ ९ ॥
अर्थ: आपने वानरराज सुग्रीव से गहरी मित्रता निभाई और मर्यादा के विरुद्ध चलने वाले बालि को मारकर धर्म की स्थापना की।

निसिचर हीन कीन्ह जब धरनी। बानर भालु कटक सब बरनी॥ १० ॥
अर्थ: जब आपने इस पृथ्वी को राक्षसों से मुक्त करने का संकल्प लिया, तब वानरों और भालुओं की विशाल सेना आपकी सहायता के लिए तैयार हो गई।

लछिमन शक्ति बिकल भइ भारी। आनि संजीवन जियाये सुखकारी॥ ११ ॥
अर्थ: जब मेघनाद के बाण से भाई लक्ष्मण अत्यंत व्याकुल और मूर्छित हो गए, तब हनुमान जी संजीवनी बूटी लेकर आए जिससे उन्हें नया जीवन मिला।

अहिरावन को मारि गिरायो। महाबली पाताल सिधायो॥ १२ ॥
अर्थ: जब महाबली पाताल लोक का राजा अहिरावण आपको छल से ले गया, तब हनुमान जी ने पाताल जाकर उसका वध किया और आपकी रक्षा की।

रावन मारि सुरन भय हारी। सीता आनि राज बैठारी॥ १३ ॥
अर्थ: आपने अभिमानी रावण का वध करके देवताओं के भय को दूर किया और माता सीता को ससम्मान वापस लाकर अयोध्या के सिंहासन पर बैठाया।

राज विभीषन लंक दीन्हा। सुर नर मुनि सब जय धुनि कीन्हा॥ १४ ॥
अर्थ: आपने शरण में आए विभीषण को लंका का राजा बना दिया। आपकी इस उदारता पर देवता, मनुष्य और मुनि सभी ने जय-जयकार की।

कहे कबीर राम भज भाई। जाकी महिमा बेदन गाई॥ १५ ॥
अर्थ: संत कबीर (या भक्तजन) कहते हैं कि हे भाई! केवल उस राम का भजन करो, जिसकी महिमा स्वयं चारों वेदों और पुराणों ने गाई है।

ऋद्धि सिद्धि सुख संपति पावै। जो यह राम चरित्र सुनावै॥ १६ ॥
अर्थ: जो कोई भी इस राम-चरित्र (चालीसा) का पाठ करता है या सुनता है, उसे जीवन में ऋद्धि-सिद्धि, सुख और अटूट संपत्ति प्राप्त होती है।

समाप्ति दोहा
राम नाम भज सुख करन, हरन सकल संताप।
तुलसीदास प्रभु राम भज, मिटै जनम को पाप॥
अर्थ: सुख प्रदान करने वाले और जीवन के सारे कष्टों को हरने वाले श्री राम के नाम का भजन करो। हे प्रभु राम! आपका भजन करने से मनुष्य के जन्म-जन्मांतर के पाप मिट जाते हैं।

Meaning: Goddess Sita (Janak's daughter), the mother of the universe, is dearest to you, the absolute treasure of compassion.

Meaning: I bow down to the lotus feet of both Lord Ram and Mother Sita, by whose grace I may attain a pure and clean intellect.

Meaning: You incarnated on earth to relieve its heavy burden of evil. O lotus-eyed Lord, you completely wiped out the lineage of demons.

Barish Chaudah Varsh Bipin Mein Dhare | Janak Suta Sang Bandhu Sidhare || 6 ||
Meaning: You endured exile in the dense forests for fourteen years. Along with you went Mother Sita and your loyal brother Lakshman.

Nishichar Maari Sujas Bistare | Tadka Subahu Baali Sanhare || 7 ||
Meaning: You eliminated dark forces and spread your holy fame everywhere by destroying terrifying demons like Tadka, Subahu, and Vali.

Gidhraj Ki Kriya Suhai | Shabari Ke Phal Bhakhe Raghurai || 8 ||
Meaning: O King of the Raghus! You performed the final rites of Jatayu (the King of Vultures) like a son, and you lovingly ate the tasted berries offered by the simple devotee Shabari.

Meaning: When the powerful demon Ahiravan craftily took you to the underworld (Pataal), Hanuman traveled there, destroyed him, and rescued you safely.

Meaning: By slaying the arrogant demon king Ravana, you completely removed the fear of the Gods. You brought Mother Sita back with honor and took your rightful place on the throne.

Meaning: You generously granted the kingdom of Lanka to Vibhishana, who had sought your refuge. At this noble act, gods, humans, and sages shouted your praises in joy.

Meaning: The devotees and saints say: "O brother, worship only that Lord Ram, whose vast glory is eternally sung by the holy Vedas."
